BETHANY TIMMERMAN

Counselor Intern/PhD Candidate

Hello! My name is Bethany Timmerman. I earned my master’s degree in Counseling from Austin Peay University in Clarksville, TN in 2000 and am currently a doctoral student in Counseling and Supervision at Tennessee Tech.

I am privileged and excited to work as an intern at The Grove Collective while pursuing my licensure as a professional counselor (LPC). I have experience counseling children, teens, women, couples, and families, including individuals with special needs, and I enjoy working with individuals and groups. I believe in a holistic approach to counseling and will work with clients toward the healing they desire. I use a variety of techniques and therapies, depending on what works for each client, including  Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, and Play Therapy. I also have experience with Biblical counseling for clients who want that focus. My interests include grief and loss, trauma, identity, behavior, and family systems, but I am willing to work with any clients. One of my favorite quotes from Narrative Therapy is, “The person is not the problem, the problem is the problem”, and I will approach each person and session with that in mind. In my free time, I enjoy visiting my adult children, playing games, doing puzzles, playing piano, and taking walks. I look forward to meeting you soon!
