Welcome to Grove, A Healing Collective. We are a private practice counseling center in Sparta, TN serving the needs of our community for over the past 10 years. Grove was started originally as “Infinite Possibilities Counseling” by mental health counselors looking to create a premier mental health facility in our community. All of our therapists are licensed and trained in working with individuals, families and children across a spectrum of mental health diagnoses and issues. We believe mental health is central to a life well lived, and incorporate a holistic approach to serving our clients.

At Grove, we take pride in our work and the environment we have created. We take great care to make sure we are able to manage our case loads appropriately, seeing our clients as regularly as needed. We strive to provide a place that feels comfortable and homey, that clients can enjoy being a part of. We try and stay connected, offering text and email reminders for appointments and remaining active on our social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram. We believe information and education are key, and often try to share information we believe will be helpful to our clients and community. Our counselors are always up to date on training and continuing education requirements, and work closely with our clients to coordinate care as needed. We believe access to mental health services is vital to healthy communities and individuals, and offer a sliding scale for those who qualify, as well as insurance billing and private pay.

Take a look around, get to know us, ask the community, read our reviews and see if Grove will be a good fit for you! Don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. We look forward to working with you!

Susan Freitag, LPC-MHSP

Not accepting new clients at this time

I realize that counseling can be a scary and intimidating process, and my goal is to make you as comfortable as possible in a relaxing environment. I believe that everyone could benefit from counseling at one time or another, and we can work together to develop ways to help you cope with life’s challenges. I do not see counseling as merely a career path but a passion and calling. I am blessed that I love what I do!

I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 2001. I worked in the social work field for several years before returning to school at Tennessee Technological University, where I obtained my Master’s Degree in 2009. I have been providing counseling services in the Upper Cumberland since that time.

I am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I also utilize a variety of counseling methods including Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). I have treated clients suffering from issues such as depression, anxiety,
unresolved grief, trauma, and post-traumatic stress disorder to name a few. My clients range from children to the geriatric population.

I am married with three children and two dogs. My faith and family gives me much strength and support. One of my passions would have to be the outdoors, and that is where you will find me if I am not in the office. I love gardening, hiking, and boating. My newest passion is my Harley Davidson, and I enjoy riding as much as possible.

Susan is one of the founding clinicians & co-owner of Grove.

Melissa Spaulding, LPC-MHSP.

I graduated from Johnson University in 2009 with my Masters in Professional Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy and have been practicing in the Upper Cumberland since. We opened Infinite Possibilities Counseling in July of 2013 and have worked hard to create an atmosphere of safety and healing for every person, every walk of life. I feel privileged to partner alongside clients in their work towards growth and healing.

I have specialized training in treating trauma, disordered eating, depression and anxiety. I use a range of modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Systems Family Theory, Internal Family Systems, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

When I’m not at the office you’ll find me spending time with my two boys and husband outside! I love all things vegetable garden, flowers, and house plants-from digging in the dirt to canning. We enjoy the great outdoors and camping in our vintage Serra Scotty camper. In any free time I like to make jewelry and macrame!

Isaac Evans, LPC-MHSP

I graduated with my Masters in Clinical Mental Health in 2019 from Tennessee Tech University. Since then I have worked with a diversified population, from ages 5-99+ on a diverse set of issues including personality disorders, behavioral issues, anxiety, depression and other issues.

I use a diverse set of approaches as well, doing my best to find the best treatments for each individual issue, including Motivational Interviewing to help facilitate change, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help identify the ways thinking impacts mood and behavior, Exposure therapy to help work through anxiety and trauma based triggers, Gestalt therapy to help navigate internal conflict, Systemic therapy to help someone feel better in their job, home, school, and community, and some other approaches as well. I am also constantly looking for new ways to grow as a therapist so I can provide the best approach.

Above all I want to provide a safe place where new things can be explored and we can grow as people. Individual, couple's, and family therapy are all approaches that I am open to using as needed in order to provide the best therapy I can.

Life's challenges can feel overwhelming, leaving us lost in the darkness. As a counselor, I see myself as a guide, walking with you as you navigate these difficulties. You are the expert of your own life, and my role is to empower you to find the strength within. Through a person-centered approach, we'll explore your experiences, working together to gain self-awareness and overcome obstacles.

Trauma can leave a lasting impact, and I utilize a trauma-informed lens, drawing from modalities like ACT, IFS, somatic therapies, and polyvagal theory to create a safe, judgment-free space for healing. I'm passionate about tailoring these evidence-based practices to your unique needs.

I am a recent graduate with a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Tennessee Tech, and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. I offer in-person and tele-health services under clinical supervision as I work towards obtaining my LPC/MHSP.

Whether you're navigating life transitions, struggling with anxiety or depression, or simply feel stuck, know this: you are not alone. Together, we can find a path forward through the darkness.

Grover Heckmann, A Very Good Boy

Payment accepted: pets, hugs, and doggie treats.

Grover showed up at our office one day looking for work. What a natural! His first order of business was walking clients to and from their cars. In the middle of his busy day, he decided that Adam Heckmann needed to be rescued and so the rest is history. He (Grover, not Adam) is currently going through obedience training and is doing well. In the meantime, he can be spotted helping Adam with his notes, keeping staff awake during meetings, or simply putting a smile on the face of anyone he meets.

Christina Whiteaker, Administrative Assistant

As our practice grew, we knew we needed to add someone to our administrative team.  A position of Administrative Assistant was discussed, and we made a list of what we were looking for.  It was rather serendipitous that an email appeared only a couple of hours later from Christina.  As you can guess, she fit the criteria of what we needed and wanted.  She is warm and friendly as well as a quick learner.  We are so glad she has joined our team!

Anne Loubier, LPC-MHSP, NCC

I graduated from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2014 with a Masters Degree in Clinical Counseling Psychology, and since then I have had experience working with all ages, including working in intense situations with the police department and hospitals in Chicago, IL.

I practice an integrative approach focusing on the whole person, physically, mentally, and emotionally. I approach counseling using mindfulness techniques, along with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing. I have had experience working with a wide variety of issues including Depression, Anxiety, crisis intervention, self-esteem, grief and loss, and PTSD.

I enjoy spending time with my husband and son, traveling, and exploring local events and new places!

Carrie Dean, MSEd, PMH-C

Private Pay/Cigna/Aetna/ Telehealth Only Online

Hey, everyone! My name is Carrie Dean, and I am a certified perinatal mental health counselor. I graduated with a bachelors degree in sociology from Middle Tennessee State University in 2014 then received my masters degree in clinical mental health counseling in 2016 from the University of Tennessee at Martin. Currently I am working toward obtaining my LPC/MHSP. Until then, I work directly under my clinical supervisor taking clients for telehealth services through Grove: A Healing Collective. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as well as mindfulness components in my practice. I am also trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT). My specialties include Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) and trauma. I received my perinatal mental health certification through Postpartum Support International.

For years my passion was working with survivors of abuse, but this changed completely in 2020 when we had an incredibly traumatic failed adoption and had to hand our daughter back to her birth family after several months. Through my journey of processing that grief, and the help of wonderful people in my life, I found my passion in helping parents ensure their mental health is in tip-top shape during the transition into and through parenthood.

Although my I do not have any children in my home, I have two children that I claim as my babies, both resulting in failed adoptions. For a short while I was able to experience all the joys, fears, and other emotions of new parenthood. This has allowed for greater empathy for not only parents of newborns and infants but a better understanding of grief and loss that I can use in my practice.

In my free time I love spending time with my family and friends. My work is my passion as well. I have many plans to travel, and I love having new experiences and learning new things.
