Cookeville Lifestyle Magazine!

We were so honored to be featured in the Spring 2024 Edition.

Welcome to Grove, A Healing Collective. We are a private practice counseling center in Sparta, TN serving the needs of our community for over the past 10 years. Grove was started originally as “Infinite Possibilities Counseling” by mental health counselors looking to create a premier mental health facility in our community. All of our therapists are licensed and trained in working with individuals, families and children across a spectrum of mental health diagnoses and issues. We believe mental health is central to a life well lived, and incorporate a holistic approach to serving our clients.

At Grove, we take pride in our work and the environment we have created. We take great care to make sure we are able to manage our case loads appropriately, seeing our clients as regularly as needed. We strive to provide a place that feels comfortable and homey, that clients can enjoy being a part of. We try and stay connected, offering text and email reminders for appointments and remaining active on our social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram. We believe information and education are key, and often try to share information we believe will be helpful to our clients and community. Our counselors are always up to date on training and continuing education requirements, and work closely with our clients to coordinate care as needed. We believe access to mental health services is vital to healthy communities and individuals, and offer a sliding scale for those who qualify, as well as insurance billing and private pay.

Take a look around, get to know us, ask the community, read our reviews and see if Grove will be a good fit for you! Don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. We look forward to working with you!

Not accepting new clients at this time

I realize that counseling can be a scary and intimidating process, and my goal is to make you as comfortable as possible in a relaxing environment. I believe that everyone could benefit from counseling at one time or another, and we can work together to develop ways to help you cope with life’s challenges. I do not see counseling as merely a career path but a passion and calling. I am blessed that I love what I do!

I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 2001. I worked in the social work field for several years before returning to school at Tennessee Technological University, where I obtained my Master’s Degree in 2009. I have been providing counseling services in the Upper Cumberland since that time.

I am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I also utilize a variety of counseling methods including Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). I have treated clients suffering from issues such as depression, anxiety,
unresolved grief, trauma, and post-traumatic stress disorder to name a few. My clients range from children to the geriatric population.

I am married with three children and two dogs. My faith and family gives me much strength and support. One of my passions would have to be the outdoors, and that is where you will find me if I am not in the office. I love gardening, hiking, and boating. My newest passion is my Harley Davidson, and I enjoy riding as much as possible.

Susan is one of the founding clinicians & co-owner of Grove.

Melissa Spaulding, LPC-MHSP.

I graduated from Johnson University in 2009 with my Masters in Professional Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy and have been practicing in the Upper Cumberland since. We opened Grove in July of 2013 and have worked hard to create an atmosphere of safety and healing for every person, every walk of life. I feel privileged to partner alongside clients in their work towards growth and healing.

I have specialized training in treating trauma, disordered eating, depression and anxiety. I use a range of modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Systems Family Theory, Internal Family Systems, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

When I’m not at the office you’ll find me spending time with my two boys and husband outside! I love all things vegetable garden, flowers, and house plants-from digging in the dirt to canning. We enjoy the great outdoors and camping in our vintage Serra Scotty camper. In any free time I like to make jewelry and macrame!

I graduated with my Masters in Clinical Mental Health in 2019 from Tennessee Tech University. Since then I have worked with a diversified population, from ages 5-99+ on a diverse set of issues including personality disorders, behavioral issues, anxiety, depression and other issues.

I use a diverse set of approaches as well, doing my best to find the best treatments for each individual issue, including Motivational Interviewing to help facilitate change, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help identify the ways thinking impacts mood and behavior, Exposure therapy to help work through anxiety and trauma based triggers, Gestalt therapy to help navigate internal conflict, Systemic therapy to help someone feel better in their job, home, school, and community, and some other approaches as well. I am also constantly looking for new ways to grow as a therapist so I can provide the best approach.

Above all I want to provide a safe place where new things can be explored and we can grow as people. Individual, couple's, and family therapy are all approaches that I am open to using as needed in order to provide the best therapy I can.

Grover Heckmann, A Very Good Boy

Payment accepted: pets, hugs, and doggie treats.

Grover showed up at our office one day looking for work. What a natural! His first order of business was walking clients to and from their cars. In the middle of his busy day, he decided that Adam Heckmann needed to be rescued and so the rest is history. He (Grover, not Adam) is currently going through obedience training and is doing well. In the meantime, he can be spotted helping Adam with his notes, keeping staff awake during meetings, or simply putting a smile on the face of anyone he meets.

Olivia Martin, MA, Master’s Level Clinician

You’ve reached a crux in your story. Perhaps you’ve found yourself stuck and unsure how to change. Maybe the life you thought you wanted hasn’t turned out the way you thought it would. Hi, I’m Olivia (She/Her). I’m so glad we’ve found each other. I am a pre-licensed Therapist with a Master’s in Counseling & emphasis on Clinical Mental Health. I work under a licensed supervisor as I pursue licensure.

My background is in working with children, families, individuals, and groups to meet their goals. I have experience supporting families in crisis/youth intervention services, youth impacted by incarceration and the foster care system; college students, the LGBTQIA+ community, musicians, adults processing complex trauma, spiritual trauma/abuse, grief, and partners/loved ones impacted by betrayal trauma and sex addiction.

I operate from a Feminist, Person-Centered framework, blending elements of Internal Family Systems, DBT, and Existential theory. Applying a systemic lens to conversations is crucial. You are not a person with a problem, you are a person responding to a problematic world. I will help you navigate how to make sense of what healing might look like in a society that often opposes it.

I view my work as helping people become more human. It is an honor to walk alongside you in some of the most tender chapters of your story. Life can indeed be beautiful after the life you thought you wanted gets shattered. Let’s pick up the pieces together, and discover what beautiful mosaic you will create with your “one wild and precious life” -Mary Oliver

Elizabeth Mountz, MSW, LCSW

I specialize in somatic, trauma-informed modalities with individuals experiencing chronic stress, anxiety, depression, dissociation, and histories of trauma. I have a variety of experience including outpatient treatment with adults, residential inpatient therapy, and clinical work in foster care. I am also a trauma-informed yoga teacher which has deepened my understanding of the mind-body connection and processing stored trauma in the body. Through my experience, I have found a passion for empowering individuals to find and utilize their own strengths and internal resources to overcome life’s challenges and its impacts on their lives.

My approach comes from the belief that we all hold past experiences in our bodies, and exploration of that is the key to healing. My intention is to provide you with resources that don't just help you cope with life but that address the root of your symptoms. I bring an eclectic approach to therapy and am not afraid to get creative and try out-of-the-box techniques. I will follow your lead to get as deep and creative in sessions as we can!

My goal is to create a space where you can show up just as you are in your journey. Healing work can sometimes feel overwhelming, and it is my job as your therapist to support you as you navigate through this. We all have unique experiences and difficulties in our lives, and no struggle is too big or too small for this space!
