Trauma + PTSD

Experiences of trauma can create lifelong mental, emotional and physical effects in the body. Trauma can negatively influence our ability to work, maintain relationships, trust, or care for ourselves appropriately. Working through issues or experiences of trauma can be extremely difficult but extremely rewarding. This work needs to be done in a safe environment with a properly trained individual. At IPC, our goal is to create safe spaces for individuals to begin this deep work through trauma and post traumatic stress disorder using best evidence based practices and a respectful understanding of the clients needs. A wonderful resource for individuals and supportive others working through trauma is "The Body Keeps a Score: Brain, Mind and Body in the Healing of Trauma" by Bessel Van der Kolk, MD.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a treatment modality used in treating PTSD, complex PTSD and trauma. This evidence based practice uses the power of neuroscience and emotional processing to help you begin working through issues related to traumatic events. Through using EMDR, we are able to begin processing traumatic events without experiencing the "reliving" of these events. This method uses inherent biological mechanisms to help the individual process trauma experiences safely. EMDR is a highly effective treatment option, and must be done by a trained individual. At IPC, we have 3 EMDR trained therapists who specialize in working through trauma and PTSD.
