What is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)?

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a therapeutic approach that combines the use of ketamine, a legal, FDA-approved medication, with talk therapy to support healing from conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, and chronic stress. Unlike traditional medication, ketamine can offer rapid relief from symptoms and create a window of opportunity for deeper therapeutic work.

How Does It Work?

During a KAP session, a client receives a low dose of ketamine in a safe, supportive setting, typically under the care of both a medical provider and a licensed therapist. Each client has their own private space, and you’re welcome to have a friend or family member accompany you if you wish.

The medicine can temporarily quiet the inner critic, soften emotional defenses, and open access to new perspectives and unprocessed emotions. In this state, clients often explore experiences, beliefs, and memories with greater compassion and curiosity.

After the experience, integration therapy helps you make meaning of what came up during the session, applying those insights into your daily life and ongoing healing journey.

What Are the Benefits?

  • Relief from symptoms of depression and anxiety

  • New insights and emotional breakthroughs

  • Disruption of stuck thought or behavior patterns

  • Increased openness and emotional resilience

  • A sense of connection and spiritual insight (for some)

Who Is It For?

KAP can be a helpful option for individuals who have tried other treatments without significant results, or those seeking a different approach to deep healing. It is not a fit for everyone, so we conduct a comprehensive intake to determine safety and appropriateness.

Our Approach

At Grove, we take a trauma-informed, compassionate, and collaborative approach to KAP. Our goal is to provide not just the medicine, but the relational support and integration that makes the experience truly transformative. Our clinicians are trained in working with altered states of consciousness and will walk with you before, during, and after each session.
